Labatt Seal Colony

Visited the seals on one of our day trips out from Streaky Bay. Lots of adult seals and pups.
A couple of bull seals having a go at each other.
Was easyier to include these with all the imformation than try to retype it all.

Murphy's Haystacks.

Some interesting colours in the rocks.

Murphy's Haystacks were awesome rock formations between Streaky Bay and Port Kenny, many looking like loaves of bread. There was a information board telling how they had evolved but it had too much information for me to put here. Go see it for yourself!

The three Amigos and their 4 wheel drives. From left to right; Steve & Sue, Kevin & Karen, Bryon & Sue.
Hmm, wonder who that happy chappy is?
Kevin & Karen wandering through the rocks.

Haslam 2

Our second stay at Haslam was for two weeks of veging out! I caught these fish from the jetty, a small Salmon & a King George Whiting, they were yummy eating. Any ideas we had of swimming again under the jetty went out the window when some night fishermen had a catch of Pink Snapper on the jetty and lost the last one to a 5 metre White Pointer Shark!
Jill & Ian Brown, we were camped next to them for the two weeks we were there, good fun couple and felt like we had known them forever by the time we left. Have met so many great couples, Grant & Pam who are heading to WA and the unforgettable Helen & Billie! Plan to camp on their lawn when we get to Queensland, and also Rob & Lyn, who we have managed to catch up with a few times in different places.
The last happy hour before we left for Streaky Bay, was lovely to have a fire now that fire restrictions are finished.
Kevin & Karen were with us for the last week and Steve & Sue arrived for the last two days.
Love happy hour! Always a few funny characters and different people to talk to all the time. Amazing how many times you find that you have many friends or acquaintance's in common.

Chandada Rest Area

After leaving Pildappa Rock we went looking for somewhere close to camp for the night as time was getting on, so we headed to Poochera to check out the hotel-caravan park. What a dive! the hotel had a sign saying closed Sunday & Monday and had steel bars on every area that opened & closed. The block across the road from the pub had signs on it saying" keep out" " go away" "no trespassing"!The caravan park side was overgrown and full of piles of rubbish, old tin & such. The toilet were locked, god knows why? & there was one long term van there to book in to when the pub was closed but after a closer look we decided to give this place a miss too, so hit the road again.
Eventually got to Chandada Pioneer Park which is a rest stop on the side of the road with an old field day site next to it which had a few old derelict buildings scattered around.

This is Harry's Stump which weighs 28 tonne! On display in a shed next to the parking area. It is also home to a very active bee hive so we had to park down the road a bit from it.

So this was home for the night at last! We declared happy hour open and went for a wander around the old buildings. Was pretty cold in the morning as we were inland, and found a couple had come in during the night across the road from us & set up in a tent , as they say safety in numbers.
We are heading back to Haslam tomorrow to stay until Easter.
To answer George's question; no,we are not heading for home. We are booked in to Streaky Bay for two weeks over Easter & the school holidays and Kevin & Karen and Steve & Sue are coming over from WA to meet us there and after those two weeks are up we are travelling on with Steve & Sue up through the middle to Ayers Rock, Alice Springs then around the top to Darwin & Broome. Unfortunately Kevin & Karen have to go back home to work & can't come with us.

Pildappa Rock

After leaving Cleve we headed up to Kimba, what a pretty, loved town, has the most awesome pub but as it was morning we just had a walk through. Ran into a couple we both knew from Nyabing, Elaine Harris ( Neville Harris's mum)and Len Altham, who Bryon knew from Nyabing. They pulled up at the same rest spot in town so we had a good catch up.
From Kimba we went to Wudinna but didn't like the look of it so went on to Pildappa Rock. We pulled up here and went "WOW" this looks like a great spot to spend a few days. Jumped out of the car to find a good spot to put the van and after walking about 20 feet we were attacked by swarms of marsh flies, unbelievable amounts of them, much like a swarm of bee's, we didn't have enough hands to to get them off before they were biting us, so we ran back to the car to escape them and I ventured out again just long enough to get a few photo's before we left. Very disappointed as it looked so interesting and is much bigger that Wave Rock and had lots of walks around and up it, so we will put it on the to do later list when it is not marsh fly season.
This was the other side of the rock and there are geraniums growing in parts of the rock that had been planted in 1918.
Nice camping area's on both sides of the rock.

Cleve

In Cleve we stayed at the showgrounds where it was $10 per night with power & water. Again was very windy, went to the pub for a drink and a play on the pokies (gobbles up the money and boring just pushing one button). Had a bit of fun with a mouse getting into the van the first night, lucky we caught him next morning when I found him sound asleep in my clothes when I went to put them on, he had found the grapes in the bowl on the bench and dragged one down behind the cushion when Bryon sits, as it was half eaten we figured he had a full tummy and was just looking for somewhere warm to sleep it off! So he was evicted alive to play another day.
Visited Yeldnuckie Weir, the weir & reservoir were completed in 1912 and supplied water to Arno Bay & Cowell, but not Cleve. It is a beautiful area with picnic area and some walking trails.

This resorted wheel house is heritage listed.

Port Gibbon & Cowell.

Stayed 4 nights in Port Gibbon, just a few holiday shacks and the campground. Didn't take any photos of there as we barely got out of the van due to the weather. Everyone emerged for happy hour rugged up to the nines, so it was a very social & good happy hour, but just couldn't sit out under the awning or even think of fishing. Pulled down the awning after the second night due to the high wind & noise it made.
Went to Cowell to do the grocery shop & for me to visit the Chiropractor. Bryon thought that was good as I parked him at the pub and then I had to drive home as he was a little happy! Cowell was packed with both caravan parks full & vans lined up to get in. Got another 2 dozen oysters there and Bryon has decided he will buy them open next time due to the damage to his hands.
